Pneumonia

What is Pneumonia?

Pneumonia occurs when lung inflammation affects alveoli. This is usually caused by an infection with bacteria, viruses or fungi, some drugs and other conditions like the autoimmune diseases. Symptoms include chest pain, fever, breathing difficulties, cough, headache, muscle aches. Vaccines can prevent certain types of pneumonia. Diagnosis involves sputum culture or x-rays and treatment can vary based on the underlying cause. Antibiotics are used for bacterial pneumonia, identified through sputum culture. Severe cases may require hospitalization.

Commonly, there are 2 kinds of pneumonia;

– Lobar pneumonia, when there is an infection in one lobe of the lungs.
– Bronchial pneumonia, when there is an infection in both lungs or in more than one lobe.

Pneumonia affects around 450 million people worldwide yearly, around seven percent of the population, and results in around 4 million deaths, mostly in developing countries. People of all ages can develop pneumonia, from babies to the elderly although, it’s especially dangerous to the weak. In fact, in terminal illness, when it helps to end the suffering, pneumonia has been called “the old man’s friend”.

How can Home Salt Therapy help?

The salt particles or salt aerosol used in salt therapy help to dehydrate the virus or bacteria preventing them from spreading further. Salt has anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties, all of which help fight infections. It helps to clear your lungs from pathogens and stagnant mucus, promoting a fast recovery. Mainly, the benefits come from the salt’s ability to fight infections, reduce inflammation and improve the mucus clearance due to its mucolytic property. Long-term use of salt therapy helps increase respiratory immunity, improves sleep due to the negatively charged salt particles and improves breathing and blood oxygenation. This will not help you combat diseases but also live a better and healthier life!
